Robert M. Swedroe drew inspiration for the artwork from the Monarch butterflies he observed hovering around his pool area. Rather than creating a literal representation of the scene, Swedroe approached the composition through his characteristically surreal perspective, allowing viewers to experience and interpret the imagery for themselves.
The composition brings together dramatic orange and black Monarch butterflies with blue, white, yellow, purple, turquoise, and multicolored butterflies that appear to move across a luminous field of sky blue, soft pink, lavender, and jewel tones.
